President Trump is poised to become the third president in U.S. history to be impeached as House Democrats prepare to vote this week on two articles stemming from their investigation into Trump’s actions toward Ukraine.
Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced that the articles would come to the floor for a full House vote before lawmakers wrap up their work for the year. Hoyer’s announcement came after a tense three-day markup of the articles in the House Judiciary Committee that ended in a party line vote.
“These two articles of impeachment — on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — will come to the House Floor for consideration. The representatives of the American people will then vote on whether to send this case against the President to the Senate for trial,” Hoyer said in a statement.
The House Rules Committee has scheduled its markup related to the articles for Tuesday, with a probable vote on the floor on Wednesday.
