Loeffler says she’s ‘not familiar’ with Trump’s comments from ‘Access Hollywood’ tape

Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) did not identify an issue on which she disagreed with President Trump during a meeting with several reporters on Wednesday, dodging questions about Trump’s comments on the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump talked about grabbing women by the genitals.

Loeffler, who is in a competitive reelection race, deflected questions about Trump’s comments, identifying herself as a politician who was an outsider like Trump and agreed with the president’s pro-business stance.

She repeatedly deflected questions about Trump’s alleged assaults on women and his specific comments on the “Access Hollywood” tape, which sparked massive headlines in the waning weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign.

The questioning began when CNN’s Manu Raju asked Loeffler, whose opponents include Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), a key defender of Trump during the impeachment hearings, about her allegiance to Trump. Collins and Loeffler have both battled to be identified as pro-Trump in the race.

“Is there any issue on which you disagree with the president on,” Raju asked.

“No,” Loeffler replied. “Look the president, like myself, he’s a political outsider. He’s a business person fighting for America first … that’s what I went to Washington to do.”

A second reporter asked Loeffler if she knew that Trump was “caught on tape talking about sexually assaulting women.

“You didn’t disagree with that,” the reporter said. “What does that say?”

“Look what I agree with is the approach President Trump has taken since day one to put America first,” she responded.

The reporter pressed again: “But you’re still not disagreeing with that particular thing the president said?”

“I’m sorry what are you referring to,” Loeffler asked. “I’m not familiar with that.”

Raju interjected: “The ‘Access Hollywood’ tape. He’s referring to the ‘Access Hollywood’ tape.”

Loeffler deflected, saying: “Look, this President is fighting for America and that’s what I’m fighting for, to make sure that every American has their chance to live the American dream.”

Loeffler’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill about the remarks.

On the “Access Hollywood” tape, Trump is heard telling Billy Bush that because he is rich, women will allow him to touch them however he wants.

He bragged about grabbing them “by the p—-.”

Loeffler was appointed to her seat to serve the remainder of retired Sen. Johnny Isakson’s (R-Ga.) term before a special election.

The top two vote-getters in that election will advance to a final election on Jan. 5 if no candidate wins at least 50 percent of the vote.
