Pennsylvania Lieutenant Gov. John Fetterman has officially announced his run for the U.S. Senate.

“I’m running in large part because it’s a continuation of the 20 years that I’ve been working toward advancing some of the core policies, ideas, people, places for the last 20 years here in Braddock,” Fetterman, a Democrat, told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 in an exclusive interview.

Fetterman is the former mayor of Braddock.

He’ll seek the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Pat Toomey who previously announced he will not seek another term.

The election for the U.S. Senate seat will be held in 2022.

Fetterman previously made a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2016.
