‘The better you do, the faster this whole nightmare will end’: Trump extends coronavirus guidelines to April 30

President Trump said he is extending social distancing guidelines nationwide until at least April 30.

The guidelines were originally touted as 15 days to slow the spread of the coronavirus, but the extension comes as health experts have warned the potential for hundreds of thousands of deaths in the United States.

“The better you do, the faster this whole nightmare will end,” the president said about the extended deadline.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, suggested Sunday that millions could get infected in the U.S., resulting in 100,000-200,000 deaths. Fauci added at a press conference with the president hours later that he gave the recommendation to extend the coronavirus guidelines.

Trump said he expects the peak of the pandemic in the country to occur in two weeks.
